AI Copywriting. Yes or No?

SHOULD YOU WRITE YOUR AMAZON PRODUCT DESCRIPTION WITH AI?

Last year, I was having a conversation with a colleague who was freaking out about AI. Determined that it was going to be the death of her copywriting business, she couldn’t be talked off the cliff. Fast forward to almost a year later and she’s finding herself fully booked for AI rewrite work, traveling the world, and generally not freaking out about AI. After losing clients to AI, they’re returning, with fistfuls of generic, dull copy filled with annoying errors. And she’s rewriting it all so they can claw back their lost readers.

And it got me thinking about Amazon AI copy. And while I haven’t tried all the tools that exist, the ones I have tried, live up to that generic, dull copy filled with annoying errors vibe.

This is from Jungle Scout. I can’t remember what I fed the AI, but it chose the keywords.

• It’s fast

• It’s not too bad if you need to throw a listing online quickly

• It’s easy for people who can’t write

• It helpful for people on a budget, or who don’t want to pay a writer

• It can offer some good lines (I liked the bones of bullet #4 from Jungle Scout’s tool)

Five Cons

• It didn’t seem to understand TOS (using the words pest etc)

• It’s a little generic. You’ll find this copy on your competitor listings “add a modern touch to any countertop”

• It can sound a little wordy and strange.

• The SEO placement isn’t very smooth

• Can’t comprehend more than what it is fed. Aka, the listing will be as good as the operator driving the AI.
